Castro Marim

Castro Marim is a Portuguese town of about 3,200 inhabitants and a major Portuguese historical landmark, having even been Portugal´s capital for a day.

Every year, Castro Marim hosts a Medieval Fair that takes place near the end of August. This fair brings together various artists from around the world, such as medieval musicians, archers, swordsmen, troupes, dancers, etc. It also brings together vendors and various types of artisans such as weavers, blacksmiths, herbalists, among others, who, for three days, transport the town to medieval times, creating an absolutely unique environment.

Visit the majestic castle and the fortress that, both being in a strategic position, allowed excellent access, both by land and by sea (through the Guadiana River). Stroll through the historic center of the village and observe how the vast majority of housing remains intact in the face of urbanization, which allows you to fully enjoy all the history of the County. Delight yourself with the artisanal work that is done here, particularly in the production of fleur de sel from the salt pans near the town. Castro Marim is a complete municipality, which offers us the beaches, the mountains and the river.

Its border characteristics, which take us to the Guadiana River, invite us to a boat trip, unique and unmissable. One of the visits you can´t miss is to the Natural Marshland Reserve, where you can appreciate all the unique beauty of its fauna and flora. In your visit you can not miss the unavoidable gastronomy, which has the freshest fish and seafood.
